Jaw Advancement Surgery – Date and Time

Well it has been a long time since I have reached out to inform you of things regarding my jaw.

As some of you will recall, back in 2018/2019 I went through some sleep tests and it was determined that I have some breathing issues. One treatment option is CPAP which is helpful while sleeping but doesn’t resolve day time breathing issues. The result was that jaw advancement surgery was offered as an alternative treatment. So plans were put in place towards my getting the surgery. Well with COVID hitting in early 2020 those plans were put on hold – indefinitely.

However, good news came a little more than a month ago when I was informed that I was officially put on the schedule for jaw surgery on April 18 – two weeks away!!! I have now completed all my pre op appointments: consultations, pharmacy, anesthesia, cat scans, other 3d scanning etc. So next step is actual surgery on April 18.

So the actual details:

  • The surgery: Jaw advancement surgery or more technically known as orthognathic or maxillomandibular advancement surgery (MMA).
  • Where: Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga
  • When: April 18 at 8:00 in the morning.
  • Duration: They are projecting a minimum of 4 hours in surgery.
  • Recovery: Following surgery, I have been told I will be in post op for 2-4 hours then spend two nights in the hospital and possibly a third to monitor my recovery

Please NO visitors. What I would appreciate is your prayers.
1. That the surgery itself is a success and that I come through OK.
2. For Wendy and the girls as they wait for me to come through the surgery (I think they are a little nervous…)
3. For Wendy and the girls as they try to care for me through my recovery (not sure how easy a patient I will be…)
4. For me that I won’t get too discouraged etc with so many days of sitting/laying around with not being able to do much and not being able to talk and my face being all swollen etc.

Will keep you all posted.
